Supporting Parents

One of the key reasons why the Church provides Catholic schools is to assist parents in the education and religious formation of their children: 

“Since parents have given children their life, they are bound by the most serious obligation to educate their offspring and therefore must be recognized as the primary and principal educators. This role in education is so important that only with difficulty can it be supplied where it is lacking.”

At St Patrick’s, we support parents and carers as the first teachers of their child’s faith. Each half term, we share a Living and Learning Parent Leaflet which focuses on the “living” part of our school statement and gives families ideas to use at home. 

The leaflets help parents encourage their children to grow in God’s love by developing the virtues and values of love, hope, respect, honesty, courage and generosity in everyday family life.

Whole School Home Learning

At key times in the Church’s year, we set whole school home learning linked to our faith and Catholic mission. These activities help unite our school community in a shared focus, giving every child and family the opportunity to reflect, pray and respond together. 

Our home learning often links to important seasons and celebrations such as Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and the Season of Creation, as well as special themes such as Pilgrims of Hope. These tasks encourage families to talk about faith at home and help children understand that our Catholic life continues beyond the school day.
