Making learning irresistible

Home Learning

Hello my lovely little receptions! I miss you guys so much already! We might not all be together causing the usual madness in our classroom but we can still have lots of fun learning from home until we are reunited again! I'll be putting lots of things on this page to keep you busy and entertained, such as funny pics to make you laugh, ideas of things you can do with your family and share silly stories of what Matilda and I are getting up too! Love Mrs Patrick xxxxxx

Mrs Patrick and Mrs Hartley

LearningBook

Lots of you access 'LearningBook' weekly to see the things your child has been doing at school, along with uploading photos and making comments regularly to their observations. Below are some instructions on how to download the app and upload photos from home if you haven't been uploading already. Please can you upload photos as often as you can of the things they are doing at home. These can be linked to the things i suggest as well as your ideas, this way i can keep track of their learning and see how they are. THANK YOU, love Mrs Patrick xxxxxxxx

Daily Prayers

Please share the prayers from the prayer sheet daily with your children. I will be adding links to religious stories and activities for you to carry on developing their catholic learning, as well as keeping their catholic ethos alive.

Daily Exercise

We are a very active bunch in reception aren't we?! We spend a lot of time in our outdoor area exploring and moving around, we build, we run, we play, we have PE lessons, we do yoga, we meditate, we play football, we play games at playtime and lunch, so it is VERY IMPORTANT to keep active at home to keep your body and mind healthy! The Body Coach is doing a daily PE lesson from 9-9.30 on his youtube channel, so what a perfect time to start your day! Matilda and I will be joining in from home too! The link below will take you to his channel. ENJOY! xxx

Our Reception Blog

Well I've become so technological this last week that I've surprised myself! With some instructions from Miss Cooper i have managed to create  a blog on purple mash! I thought it would be a nice way for us all to stay in contact while we're not at school. We can leave nice messages for each other and can share what we've been up too! Log onto your purple mash account (log in details on the laminated card in your home learning packs that we sent home) and follow the instructions below! Happy Blogging!! xxxxxxxxxxx

Monday 6th April - 'Easter Holidays'

Good Morning my little loves i hope you've had a nice weekend and got outside safely in the sunshine. Matilda and i have been enjoying our daily exercise, Matilda's been going on her bike and I've tried to catch up with her! I got my kitchen painted finally and we've had movie nights and hot chocolates too! I managed to catch up with some of my friends on video call on Saturday night, which was really fun. Hope you've managed to chat to some of your friends and family on video call too.

Today's Easter Activities

So last week we learnt all about how important Easter is to us and you guys made lots of fantastic Easter crafts, thanks for the photos you sent to my school email. You can still send photos if you haven't already. At Easter we also celebrate new life and the end of lent, we give each other Easter eggs, bake cakes, watch the lambs in the fields and hope that the Easter bunny visits too! So this week we are going to think about some of these things and get creative! Today see if you can create a bunny, any way you like, drawing one in your 'art and Craft' book, make a 3D one, drawing one in chalk outside, make a bunny outfit, absolutely anything just use your imagination and have a hopping good time!! Some photos below for inspiration!

Friday 3rd April - 'Easter Holidays'

Good morning my little Easter bunnies, well we have made it to our second Friday, yayyyyyyy! I hope you've had a fun week at home and learnt some new things about the meaning of Easter through the little videos. I have loved receiving your photos of your Easter crafts, keep them coming! Matilda started her Easter wreath today but then got side tracked making a den and putting on a puppet show for me! We took Matilda's bike to the park today, she's trying to get more confident so we can take the stabilizers off! Miss Henderson has set me a splits challenge, she wants me to be able to do the splits by the time we go back to school! So i have been doing the stretches she has sent me, wish me luck!

Today's Easter Activities

So the last activity for our Easter story week is to try and create an Easter garden if you want too! You can do this however you like, some of you might not have a garden like Matilda and i, so you might need to improvise! On your daily walk you could collect some stones, twigs and leaves etc (make sure you wash your hands!) you could create your Easter garden in an area of your garden if you have one! You could always draw an Easter garden picture or make it out of recycled material instead! Below are some photos to inspire you. Please send me any photos of your Easter creations from this week. Have fun xxxxxx

Thursday 2nd April - ' Easter Holidays'

Good morningggggggggggggggggggggggggggg everyone, you'll be pleased to know i managed to refrain from baking yesterday and we had a healthier day and made fruit smoothies! My workout included running up and down my stairs 50 times because i can't get out for run! My legs are very stiff now!! We also made rainbow stones and each day we will place one on somebody's doorstep to cheer them up. Matilda got some more goodies delivered through the letter box for all her drawings in our window, which was very kind! We also managed to survive the day WITHOUT watching Frozen 2!!!

Today's Easter Activities

Watch the video from yesterday again or even just from 3.55 mins and remind yourself of when Jesus rose again and spent the next 40 days sharing his story to others so they could have eternal life with God. All these videos show what Jesus did for us and to celebrate this the rest of the school are doing a little Easter project to make a poster/picture/craft/wreath of these 'Holy Days'. If you want you could make something too, below are some ideas, obviously just use what you have at home don't worry about needing lots of craft materials etc, be as creative (i know you all are!) as you like, do it as a family, on your own, with your brothers and sisters, YOU DECIDE! Maybe you could display them in your window or email me a picture of yourself with your creation to saskiapatrick@st-patricks-cleatormoor.cumbria.sch.uk and i can send them to Father Paul, this goes for the prayers if you've done one too.

Wednesday 1st April - 'Easter Holidays'

Well good morning my little chicks, it's the 1st of April already, sadly i can't April fools you and say we're back to school but hopefully it won't be long, we i hope not because i keep making vegan cakes and eating them all!! Yesterday Matilda and I finished our Easter wreaths and Daddy kindly delivered them to our families. We baked chocolate banana bread and then decided we should have a healthy tea after all the cake we've eaten! Matilda took her scooter to the park and we once again watched Frozen 2! Matilda also wrote a prayer to send to Father Paul asking God for help.

Today's Easter Activities

Watch the next part of the Easter story in the cartoon below, the story is a little sad but it shows how much Jesus loved us all and it's important for us to know this story. After the story chat about it with your adult and maybe together you could write a prayer to God. Maybe you could thank him for something or like Matilda you could ask him to help other people that might need it currently. You could write the prayer in your 'Home Learning' book.

Tuesday 31st March - 'Easter Holidays'

Good morning my little Easter bunnies hope you are all ok, i slept in yesterday, good job i wasn't meant to be in school! Yesterday Matilda and i spent most of the day painting egg boxes to turn into flowers for our Easter wreaths, i'll show you guys a photo when they are finished! Matilda downloaded some more of the apps on her tablet, she liked the 'Numberblocks' app but her favourite it still 'Teach your Monster to Read'! We went to the park and Matilda raced around on her scooter, it wasn't sunny but it was nice to be out in the fresh air. My gym is now putting workouts online, good job because i missed the body coach this morning after i slept in!ooopppssss! Matilda put her bear up in the window after her lovely sweets were delivered through the letter box. We can't stop snacking either, my favourite snack yesterday was corn on the cob (with butter too!!). Grandad also really enjoyed the treats we baked him and Grandma sent us a pic! missing you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Today's Easter Activities

Today please watch the video of Jesus and his disciples. Jesus wanted to teach his disciples that he was no better than them and that they should put others before themselves and teach people about God.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv5ajWNrnt4

Can you do something for somebody else today? What kind thing could it be? How did it make you feel after you did it?

Monday 30th March - 'Easter Holidays'

Helllooooooooooooooooooooo my little lovelies i hope you managed some sort of fun this weekend at home, Matilda and i tried to keep busy and i won't pretend that she only had the ipad for a little bit of time because she definitely had it for a lot longer than that!!! We managed a few walks and Matilda's Dad joined us but only from 2 metres away sadly but it was nice to spend time with him and our dog Henry. We took a walk up the slag banks from our house and to the park right next to our house too. We made some chocolate shortbread, painted Ariel, played with shopkins, i did my gym workouts and of course we did some cleaning! We also put our Easter decorations up, yes i am one of those people that decorates for every occasion and i'm not ashamed to admit it! We managed to get Matilda's Great Gram who is 88 onto a face call, we didn't see much of her face but it was nice to all be together in some way again! A nice person also posted Matilda some sweets through the letterbox to say how lovely her pictures are that we have put up, that made us really happy! Kindness is always the way forward!

Today's Easter Activities

So today was meant to be the start of the Easter holiday's but things are abit up side down at the moment anyways, so i will be posting on this page everyday Monday-Friday the next two weeks. It will just be one activity a day based on Easter and you can join in with them if you want. By all means you can do a little reading and spelling practise if you want but that's up to you! As you know we are coming up to Easter and the start of Holy Week, so i'm going to share links to cartoon videos on youtube that you can watch to learn more about Easter and activities you could do linked to them.

Below is a link to a cartoon of the last supper. Watch it and then answer these questions, what food and drink did Jesus give to his disciples? What did you say when he gave the food and drink to his disciples? A clue: Father Paul gives it to those who are confirmed during our masses. Today with the help of an adult can you prepare a meal for your family? Maybe you can write what you made on our class blog! (instructions above) or you could even write a sentence about what you made in your 'Home Learning' book if you wanted too. Have fun!

Friday 17th March

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY we made it to Friday, dare i say the week has gone fairly quickly! We planned to clean our back yard out yesterday but didn't have time so it's on today's chore list. Yesterday Matilda and i worked out with the body coach at 9am and then i did an alphabet workout that my gym challenged us all to do. We went for a walk in the sun but Matilda was being lazy, so i dragged her most of the way round!! We made some vegan cookies (from a packet too might i add and i like to bake from scratch normally but i panicked bought them when there was no flour left in Tesco last week, they turned out to be nice though!)and we practised lots of counting in twos! Our chores yesterday were to sweep and mop downstairs and once again wipe all the handles and light switches, i'm turning into a crazy cleaning lady! We also stood on our door step clapping and cheering at 8pm for all the key workers helping to people safe, i as always was emotional and cried! If any of you adults are key workers THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, we will be forever be in debt to you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If you have drawn/painted a rainbow for your window please will you take a photo and email it to the school admin address below, we'd like to share them on our facebook page over the coming weeks to cheer everyone on. THANK YOU xxx

Today's Activities

Writing: T-Rex loved to eat meat, in fact that's all they ate, which made them carnivores! You all know that i'm a vegan, so i'm a herbivore because i only eat fruit, veg and non dairy products. Can you find out what an omnivore is and decided if you are one? Can you write a list of 3/4 animals for each in your 'Home Learning' book.

Image result for omnivore carnivore herbivore

MathsToday please can you practise recognising and counting numbers, use the link below and you will find a number square where you can paint the numbers. Your adult can say numbers at random and you need to paint the numbers they say, you could practise counting forwards and backwards while you paint the numbers, can you paint the numbers to practise counting in twos, five or tens?

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares

Other Activity: PLEASE DON'T WORRY IF YOU CAN'T ADULTS (or hate me!!!) but my recycling is piling up so i thought why don't we try and make a T-REX from it! Can you see what recycling you have and try and make a 3D T-Rex? If you can't maybe you could just paint one, draw one with chalk in your back yard/garden, college one in your 'Arts & Crafts' book, anything, use your imagination! Happy crafting!!!

Thursday 26th March

Good morning my little darlings i hope that you are all happy and healthy, you must be after all the fitness with the body coach! Matilda and i are loving the sun but sadly we don't have a garden at our house here in Workington, so yesterday we enjoyed a nice walk in the sun and came home and had a picnic inside while we watched Frozen 2! Matilda got all her work done and we cleaned everywhere with dettol wipes to make sure we are staying germ free! Matilda's dance school have been putting online dance classes on so we tried one of those, i wasn't very good would you believe!! Hope you've all been helping with the chores at your house!

Thursday 26th March

Spelling: Pick 10 words from their spelling sheets (children have sheets based on their current attainments) mix them at random and ask them to write them down in their 'Home Learning' book.

Tricky Words: Pick 10 or just concentrate on the first 2 sets if you know your child is finding these harder to remember. These words can't be sounded out they need to just remember them to spell and read. Children can write these in their 'Home Learning' book.

Writing and MathsA T-Rex is about 40 foot long, the measurement of a 'foot' is a little longer than your foot but today can you use your feet to measure things in your house by putting one foot in front of the other to make it accurate. Is the length of your house longer or shorter than a T-Rex? How many feet long is your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, garden? Write down what you find into some sentences e.g The length of my sitting room is 32 feet long.

Other Activity: Inside the 'Home Learning Packs' there is a little laminated card with your log in details for Purple Mash. Please log in and at the top click onto the '2do' tab and do the following activities (please don't do the other activities I've sent on there yet, thank you). Link below also.

Wednesday 25th March

Heeellllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooo my lovelies i hope you have woke up (not to early) this morning and are feeling happy and healthy! Yesterday Matilda and i did our morning workout, ate way to many snacks, facetime our best friends, made more pictures for our window and did Matilda's school work. Here's some pictures of us ....

One for the adults, let's keep it real, i'm a teacher and it still isn't going to plan......

Today's Activities

Spelling: Pick 10 words from their spelling sheets (children have sheets based on their current attainments) mix them at random and ask them to write them down in their 'Home Learning' book.

Tricky Words: Pick 10 or just concentrate on the first 2 sets if you know your child is finding these harder to remember. These words can't be sounded out they need to just remember them to spell and read. Children can write these in their 'Home Learning' book.

Writing and MathsA T-Rex head was very large! Their jaws were around 4 feet long so all 60 of their teeth could fit in it! The longest T-Rex tooth found was 12 inches long! Today can you find 5 things longer than 12 inches, 5 things shorter than 12 inches and 5 things a similar length to 12 inches. Can you put all 15 things in order from shortest to longest? After your investigation write some sentences about what you found e.g My slipper was a lot shorter than a 12 inch T-rex tooth. Hopefully you have a ruler, tape measure or fabric tape measure in the sewing box etc. Don't worry if you haven't just measure along an adults fore arm using a piece of paper or sting and it will be roughly 12 inches long, we are estimating today anyways! Have Fun!

Other Activity: Palm Sunday - Watch the link below (children are really familiar with theses videos) and discuss what happened on Palm Sunday and why the people were praising and celebrating Jesus. In their 'Art & Craft' book they could draw a Palm Sunday picture, they could make some 3D palms, we often act the story out in class with our palms if you wanted to try something different, be as creative as you like!

STAY SAFE EVERYONE, THINKING OF YOU ALL xxx

Tuesday 24th March

Well done everyone you survived the first day at home! Matilda treated me to an early wake up call when i usually have to drag her out of bed, so thanks for that Matilda!! We worked out in the morning with the gym equipment i borrowed from my gym and then we did the body coach PE lesson, i hope you guys all managed to do it too! They are saved on his you tube channel daily, so you can play them later in the day if 9am doesn't fit into your timetable! Matilda decided that her uniform would be a princess dress today, it helped her do her work so that's fine by me!

WritingYesterday you watched the fact video all about a T-Rex and drew a picture. Please can you write some of the facts you learnt into sentences into your 'Home Learning' book?  The link is below so you can watch it again. TIP: When we watch/learn things at school we(the teacher) draws little symbols/pictures (that the kids tell me) so when we come to write we can remember all the facts by looking at symbols/pictures, give it a try!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIjIoAuNFNs

Maths: Ordering Practise: Play the 'Whack A Mole' (link below) you can set the ability on the top left according to your child's learning (instructions are at the bottom of the page)

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/whackAMole/index.html

In your 'Home Learning' book please can you write your numbers backwards from 10/20 or higher depending what numbers you are practising. In reception it is important that we learn and practise counting backwards, this will help us when working out the answers to subtraction sums.

Other Activity: Some of your adults might have already got you to draw a rainbow for your window but if they haven't can you please draw a rainbow and stick it in the window of your house. (There is a facebook page called 'Rainbow Trail Whitehaven' but it would be nice to have them up everywhere to cheer people up when they walk by). When you go out for a walk you could see how many rainbows you could find. Matilda didn't find any on our walk today! Maybe you could write a special message on it too, if you have already done a rainbow draw something else cheerful! Below is the rainbow Matilda did for her Great Gram's window to inspire you!

Reading: Before bed snuggle up, your child can read some of their reading book to you and you can then read them a story. Perfect way to get them calm and relaxed before going to sleep!

STAY SAFE EVERYONE, THINKING OF YOU ALL xxxxxx

Monday 23rd March 2020

Well good morning my little chicks, it was so weird to wake up and not be coming to school this morning to greet you all at the door with Mrs Hartley. I'm sure some of you thought the same and maybe you are a little worried or scared but please don't be, you grown ups are looking after you and keeping you safe in your house until we can go back to school! You must stay inside your own house and garden so that the germs don't spread around, please don't go out and play with other children, STAY AT HOME! I won't be in school to keep look after the key worker children as i have asthma so Matilda and i have gone into lock down and we won't be seeing anyone now until it's safe again! So i thought i'd share some pictures of us from this weekend to start off the week! On Saturday i made 'Mrs Patrick's Home School - Where We Learn Through Fun, Love and Play!' Matilda didn't seem as excited as i was!! Matilda drew family members rainbow pictures and messages for them to put in their windows. We went to visit Matilda's Great Gram but only at the window as we aren't coming into contact with anyone especially older people, she was happy to see us! My mum door delivered my vegan Easter egg box which is amazing (i'm very lucky i know!) and Matilda and i drove to the beach away from everyone to collect stones to paint this week!

Today's Activities

Grown ups you are going to be quickly dragged into the world of teaching and understand the juggling act it is BUT you are all going to be FABULOUS! Keys thing to remember young children can't concentrate for long periods of time (i'm sure you've already gathered that much) their ages plus one is normal amount of time for them to concentrate, so around 5/6 mins at a time! Some children their age can concentrate for longer but don't sit them down and expect them to do the activities one after the other without breaks etc. Of course your home is not our classroom with all the resources and our play based approach but the activities below we do teach at school so they will be use to them. Do writing activities and maths in the morning when they are more focused and leave reading and practical activities for the afternoon.

Writing: Your child can write about their weekend or if they want they can answer these questions:

  • How many windows has your house got? i.e My house has ten windows. four upstairs and six downstairs. Remember let them spell words how they hear them, encourage them to use their sound mats to help them found sounds and form letters correctly, along with their tricky word too.
  • How many bedrooms does your house have?
  • How many doors does your house have?
  • Do you have a garden or a yard?

Maths: Practise ordering, recognise and writing your numbers. Following parents evening you know what numbers your child needs to practise. We added a 100 square aswell and they have their number packs.

Other activity: This week we were going to have a T-Rex week and go T-Rex mad,  so we can still do the same! Watch the link below and learn some facts (we'll be writing them tomorrow). You can then draw a T-rex in your 'Arts and Crafts' book.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIjIoAuNFNs

Reading: Before bed snuggle up, your child can read some of their reading book to you and you can then read them a story. Perfect way to get them calm and relaxed before going to sleep!
