Spring Term 1


On Monday we went to the Canton Chef to try Chinese food. The children did really well at trying and eating the different chinese dishes. The prawn crackers, noodles and sweet and sour chicken were the most popular.

On Tuesday we had a snow day! We had lots of fun playing and exlporing the snow.

To finish our Chinese topic we performed our Chinese performance to the rest of the school and families in the afternoon.

Have a lovely halft term break.


Last Friday we visited Church to hold a mini mass. We learnt more about mass and how we gather together as a community to worship God.

In maths this week we have been learning about Capacity. We will be doing more activities on this next week.

Finished Dragons...


We started making our second dragon for our Chinese celebration this week. Now to start practsing with them!!

Finger gym this week- Chinese themed...

Snack- Pitta bread

We have started creating our own stories this week, using our phonic knowledge to listen for sounds in words and then write them down. The children have enjoyed exploring the story boxes in the class linked to this terms 'Runaway Rice cake story' and 'The Chinese New Year race story.'


This week, we have been carrying on with our topic China. We have been practsing our story and then compared it to the Gingerbread Man story. Mrs Hartley and the children have been busy making a dragon ready for our Chinese celebration performance.

In maths, we have been doing more number recognition and counting activities.

The crocodiles went to the library on Monday afternoon...

The children all got the chance to go to the computer suite and have been exploring our new IT equipment in the classroom.

We have had a great first full week back in school. We have started our new topic which is China and Chinese New Year. We have started learning our new story - "The Runaway Rice Cake" which you will be able to listen and watch in our Chinese Performance on Friday 9th February.

In Maths this week we have been practising our number recognition and 1:1 counting. Some children even had a go at tens and ones.

It was really cold at the start of the week and whilst outside the children discovered ice in various places which had frozen over night. The children loved exploring and breaking the ice.

On Monday afternoons half of reception have the oportunity to visit Cleator Moor Library.

This term we will be learning all about China and the Chinese New Year.
